Overview
This was my first shipped game on Xbox LIVE Indie Games. I am very happy with the development cycle I went through. There was much that I learned through developing it, as well as it opening the metaphorical door for me to continue pursuing making games and going freelance. Since it's release the game has done well through reviews and sales, and is still making waves.
In Chalked the Player can play as the good guys or the bad guys. As the good guys, the Player must track down the city bomber(s). Players do this by either running down the bomber, setting helper flags to create more good guys to watch over areas the Player can't be, or surrounding a building that the bomber is in with the help of the other good guys. As the bad guy, the Player has to avoid the patrolling good guys while destroying the city building by building. Entering a building, as the bad guy, will help the Player to out wit the good guys as well as allow the Player to ready a bomb.
The aesthetics was for a hand made charcoal/paper city. The characters were to mimick charcoal sticks and the textures were made with physical mediums. Within the 3D program I would UV map and texture an object with a place-holder texture map, then print out the texture map lightly and draw over it with charcoal and pencils. The sound effects and music were all vocally done. I made the sounds then overlapped myself, sped up the clips, or slowed the clips.
